Adhering to or attracting a target audience is something which is often talked about in business. This is because your target audience is your source of income and so by ignoring your target audience, you are losing potential business for your company. Therefore you really want to think about your audience in terms of a group of people that enjoy coming to your blog and reading what you have to say. The keyword of that last sentence is people. Don’t forget that your readers are living, breathing people.
It is easy to get wrapped up in the numbers game when you are consistently checking your site’s rankings. Before you know it you are gearing content based on what you think people want to read as opposed to maintaining your integrity and blogging about what interests you. For example, if you approach your blog like a garden and fill it with things that you enjoy then you will always have something that you are proud of and which you have fully invested in.
Keep it Fresh and Stay Connected
Once you begin going down that slippery slope of writing what you think your audience wants it can be hard to regain your readers’ trust. If you are starting to feel that your posts are getting stagnant then you can do what many other bloggers do and invite someone to do some guest blogging on your site. Not only does this help you to further connect with people, but it will bring in a different platform for discussion among your readers.
Responding to posts that people put on your blog is as essential as water and sunlight for your garden. Simply putting post after post up on your blog is just like continually planting without any sort of tending. Keep your blog focused on connecting with people and sharing your personal interests, tips, and lessons you’ve learned. If you keep it relevant and current you are sure to have support of readers.
